Wells Crab House

Celebrating 10 Years - 2016-2026

Husband and wife team Scott and Kelly Dougal opened Wells Crab House in 2016 just a stone's throw from the harbour. The award-winning restaurant has a reputation for serving beautifully prepared seasonal seafood dishes, especially their signature seafood platters. The couple recently expanded the business, opening a seafood takeaway.

Owners Scott and Kelly Dougal opened Wells Crab House to create a relaxed and welcoming dining experience inspired by their travels around the world.

The intimate seafood restaurant offers a monthly menu of seasonal dishes with local crab, lobster and oysters all featuring on the ever-popular seafood platters.

The menu also features regular, changing specials and a smattering of vegetarian and meat options to ensure every taste is catered for.

Putting local produce on the menu is a top priority for Scott and Kelly.

Their crabs and mussels are supplied by Andy Frary from the famous Frary Fish Stall on Wells Quay. Lobsters and oysters are also freshly delivered from local sources.

Fourth-generation butcher Arthur Howell on Staithe Street provides the meat for the menu.

To complement the seafood dishes, the restaurant offers an impressive wine list that includes local wines from award winning vineyards nestled in the Norfolk countryside.

They also stock an extensive range of gins exclusively from Norfolk suppliers, including Black Shuck, and bottled beers from local breweries.

Wells Crab House has received repeated acclaim since opening its doors in 2016.

Most recently, at the prestigious Food Awards England 2025, it won the Outstanding Achievement Award in the Restaurant of the Year (South and East) category. It was also named Best Seafood Establishment (Midlands) for the third time.

In addition, the restaurant won the Best Front of House Experience at the Norfolk and Suffolk Magazine Food & Drink Awards 2025.

The Crab House has branched out into takeaway seafood, available from their new venue, Hook A Takeaway, just a few doors down from the restaurant. Pre-order from the website or walk-in.

Choose from seafood platters, crab and lobster rolls, seafood salads, crab chowder and chef’s dish of the week.

The takeaway is licensed and offers canned local beers, wines and cocktails. Seating is available if you’d like to enjoy your takeaway in-house, along with glasses, plates and real cutlery.

The venue is dog friendly.
