About Wells Harbour Tours

Wells Harbour Tours allow you to explore the sights and sounds of Wells Harbour, its beach and salt marsh. Most trips last one hour. They are good value for money at £15 per person for adults and £10 for under 14s. Shorter 30 minute trips are also available for just £5 per person.

The skippers are happy to answer your questions, provide a full commentary, or simply chat with you about Wells and what you see on the trip. Sights include the Lifeboat Horse, a 3-metre high sculpture located in the harbour, and the Granary building with its famous overhanging gantry.

The tour boat, the Wells Ferry, was built in a boatyard in Stiffkey, just along the coast from Wells. It was designed to be as safe, as quiet and as comfortable as possible for passengers.

A Wells Harbour Tour is a wonderful way to get to know more about the place, its people and its past.

The Trips

One Hour Beach Trip
This trip heads down the channel towards the sea, with commentary about Wells, the Harbour and the local sights. You visit the Outer Harbour, the RNLI station and beach, spot interesting birds and, if you’re lucky, seals. You head out towards the open water for a unique view of the coast, then back towards the town.

One Hour Marsh Trip
Wells salt marsh is an environmentally protected nature reserve, home to a variety of birds and plants. In this trip you travel slowly and carefully along its creeks. The journey back along the Quay will give you a new perspective of the town from the water, while you hear stories of Wells and its historic buildings.

30 Minute Mini Trip
You head east along the quay, with views of the town from the water. Learn about the history of Wells, its buildings and boats. Venture briefly into Wells salt marsh, then head back the way you came, an opportunity to take photos or just relax and watch the world go by.

One Hour Harbour Trip
This follows the route of the Mini Trip, east along the quay, then briefly into Wells salt marsh before heading down the main channel towards the beach. You don’t go out onto the open sea, focusing instead on the harbour, its characters and stories. Finally, you head back to the main pontoon.

Sunset Tour – Approximately One Hour
You head down the channel towards the sea to a spot with an unbroken view of the sunset. Once there you take it easy and enjoy the sound of water lapping against the boat and the peace of an evening at sea. Once the sun has set, head back towards the quay, lights shimmering on the water.

Private Charter
Ideal if you want to celebrate a special occasion or would like a private tour with family and friends. You can venture out at sunset, during the day, to sea, round the marsh, you name it. The price depends on what you want to do, when and for how long.

The Team

The Wells Ferry has two fully qualified skippers, Nick and Chris. Both are trained in first aid, sea survival and fire-fighting, so you are in safe hands.

Nick and Chris live locally and have been around boats all their lives. They are very friendly and knowledgeable, happy to answer any questions about Wells and the sights you see on the trip.
