Wells Harbour Tours

Wells Harbour Tours offer sightseeing boat trips to the beach and salt marshes of Wells-next-the-Sea.

The trips allow you to explore the sights and sounds of Wells Harbour aboard the “Wells Ferry”. Most trips last one hour, but they also offer shorter 30 minute trips. All are excellent value for money.

Trips run every day from the end of March to the end of October, weather permitting. Trip times are displayed on the website Timetable and on the boards you’ll find on Wells Quayside.

One Hour Beach Trip
You begin by heading down the channel towards the sea, visiting the Outer Harbour, the RNLI Station and beach. You’ll see interesting birds (and maybe seals) before heading out towards the open water to give you a special view up and down the coast, then back towards town and the main pontoon.

One Hour Marsh Trip
Wells salt marsh is an environmentally protected nature reserve, home to a variety of birds and plants. You’ll travel slowly and carefully along its creeks, emerging by the whelk sheds at the east end of the quay. The journey back will give you a new perspective of the town from the water.

30 Minute Mini Trip
You’ll head east along the quay, viewing the town from the water. Your skipper will talk about the history of Wells, its historic buildings and boats, then it’s briefly into Wells salt marsh. Head back the same way to take photos or just relax and watch the world go by.

One Hour Harbour Trip
Follow the route of the Mini Trip, east along the quay, talking about the buildings and boats. Head briefly into the salt marsh, then down the main channel towards the beach. You don’t go out onto the open sea on this trip. Finally, back to town and the main pontoon.

Sunset Tour – approximately One Hour
Head down the channel towards the sea and arrive at a spot that gives you an unbroken view of the sunset. Once there you take it easy, maybe idle along, drop an anchor or drift, so you can enjoy the unforgettable peace of an evening at sea. Once the sun has gone it’s back to the quay, lights shimmering on the water.

There is no maximum or minimum age. Wells Harbour Tours can accommodate push chairs, wheelchairs & those with limited mobility. Dogs are welcome – most sleep throughout the trip!

All tours start and end on Tug Boat Yard pontoon on the East Quay (NR23 1LD). You’ll be met on the quayside and taken to the boat. Access to the boat is easy and you receive help to get on and off the boat.

You can bring your own food and drink, and don’t forget your camera!

There are two skippers; Nick and Chris. Both are fully qualified commercial skippers and are trained in first aid, sea survival and fire-fighting so you can relax and enjoy the trip knowing you are in safe hands.

All MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) recommended safety equipment is carried on board and each trip begins with a short safety briefing.

Both Nick and Chris have been around boats all their lives, and both live locally. They are happy to answer your questions, give a full commentary or, if you prefer, simply chat with you about Wells and what you see on the trip.

The “Wells Ferry” was built in a boat yard in Stiffkey, just along the coast from Wells. It was designed to be as safe, as quiet and as comfortable as possible for passengers.

You can privately charter the boat, and what you do is entirely up to you. Wells Harbour Tours have taken out sea cadets, hen nights, local charities, bird watchers and families wanting to celebrate special occasions.

They can take you out at sunset, during the day, to sea, round the marsh, you name it. The price depends on what you want to do, when and for how long.
