Once part of a vast coastal saltmarsh fed by tidal creeks, Abraham’s Bosom is an enclosed brackish water lake at Pinewoods Holiday Park. When the Wells sea wall was built in 1859 the supply of salt water was cut off, forming the isolated lagoon.
A boating lake for many years, it is now part of the Holkham National Nature Reserve and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). It is maintained to encourage wildlife, and you can access a boardwalk to further explore.
In former times the area was a sheltered haven for boats, providing safety for sailors and fishermen during storms, hence the name. Abraham’s Bosom is a biblical term symbolising a place of peace and comfort in the afterlife.
Pinewoods Holiday Park have been welcoming holidaymakers for over 60 years. Part of Holkham’s range of businesses, the park offers a mix of caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges, plus a touring park for visitors with their own caravans and motorhomes. Beach Huts are also available for hire.
The park is just moments from the beautiful beach and a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Wells-next-the-Sea. The site lies on the edge of the Holkham National Nature Reserve.

The luxurious Saltmarsh Lodges boast stylish décor, spacious living areas, state-of-the-art kitchens and sublime bathrooms.
There are two sizes to choose from, all enjoying a scenic and quiet location in the northwest corner of the park.
The lodges have free Wi-Fi and some are dog friendly.

Pinewoods Store
The store is well-stocked with groceries, toiletries, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks, including North Norfolk’s very own Black Shuck gins and Whin Hill cider. You’ll also find dog treats, toys for kids and souvenirs made in Norfolk.
Launderette
Located in the main park and touring field, the large washers and dryers are operated by tokens available from reception.
Children’s Playground
A safely enclosed on-site play area designed for children under 16 years old.
The Spoonbill Drift Touring Park sits on the edge of the Pinewoods Holiday Park and the Holkham National Nature Reserve, close to the beach and not far from the town.
It offers 116 spacious pitches for touring caravans and motorhomes, and enjoys open views of the countryside and Norfolk’s famous big skies.
The pitches comprise a 3 x 9 metre fibre-reinforced grass standing area with porous grid paving. Each pitch has electricity, water and grey water waste points as standard.
The touring park also has 2 award-winning, state-of-the-art amenity blocks, complete with toilets, showers, washing up facilities and launderettes.
